Minister Budzanowski on the "Forbes' Sofa"

On January 19, 2012, the Minister of the Treasury, Mikołaj Budzanowski, was a guest of "Forbes' Sofa" during the Forbes Energy Executive III Congress devoted to current issues and challenges facing the Polish energy sector.

As part of this year's Congress, panels' participants discussed the gas security in Europe, the challenges associated with the construction of LNG terminals, distribution of CO2 emission allowances, the future of coal in the Polish energy sector and the "Polish atom" and its prospects. At the end of the Congress , a special guest sat on the "Forbes' Sofa" - the Minister of the Treasury, Mikołaj Budzanowski.

During the interview, the Minister outlined his vision for the work in the Ministry of Treasury. As his priorities, he listed ensuring the country's energy security and investments in companies in the gas, fuel and energy sectors. Hard times are upon us and thus there are great challenges before us, especially the ones facing the energy sector. (…) We cannot miss the opportunity that Poland has whereas the state-owned companies were wasting time instead of taking advantage of this opportunity.  The next two years will undoubtedly be a time of huge commitment of our companies to the exploration, and carrying out large amounts of drilling. In the perspective of 2014, and by 2015 at the latest, we can realistically think about the first, small scale extraction of shale gas in Poland - said Minister Budzanowski.

The Minister announced the continuation of construction of the Regional Financial Centre around the Warsaw Stock Exchange and the active supervision of the State Treasury companies. He also outlined the dynamic privatisation plan for the years 2012-2013.

At the end, the Minister stressed that Poland needs an authentic and dynamic development of all economic entities, regardless whether they belong to the State Treasury, or the private sector. The Minister estimated that in the coming years we can make a real leap forward.

The "Forbes' Sofa" is a permanent element of all meetings organised by the Forbes magazine. The former guests of "Forbes' Sofa" included, among others: Tadeusz Mazowiecki, Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, Leszek Balcerowicz, Jacek Socha and Marek Belka.
