Bellona S.A. seated in Warsaw - privatised company

Description of activity

Bellona Company is one of leading Polish publishers, both in terms of the number of published titles and revenues. Primarily it’s name has been associated with historical, military and technical publications, however increasing number of Bellona’s titles are fiction, albums, calendars, children's titles and guide-books. The Company’s business is focused on three areas - publishing and distributing books, press and calendars, press distributing as well as contract printing, space rental and advertising. The first two areas constitute the core business of the Company and generate more than 80% of its revenues. In recent years Bellona has extended its business operations with new segments, by publishing e.g. supplements to newspapers and magazines, own magazine (History magazine “Mówią wieki” and „Przegląd Obrony Cywilnej”) as well as multimedia and audio publications. Over 300 new book titles are published each year by the House. Bellona’s competitive edge is driven by computer-aided typesetting, manufacturing and extensive network of sales representatives. Its essential customers are wholesalers, distribution chains, on-line book stores, mail-order clubs and customers of its on-line book store and publishing house. Bellona’s strategy aims primarily at maintaining its dominant position in the segment of historical and military book publishers, seeking new niche markets on the reader market as well as utilising new media (CDs, mp3s, audiobooks). Also, it’s distribution network is expected to be extended with outlets in market chains, discount stores and kiosks. 2007 was an exceptionally good year for all publishers. They recorded higher revenues mainly due to more extensive offerings.
