Kaliskie Zakłady Przemysłu Terenowego is the sole Polish manufacturer of fireman’s helmets. Technology improved over the years allowed the company to specialise in the manufacture of very good (in terms of functionality and quality) helmets made with use of aramid (a type of fibre-forming polyamides). The company mainly sells its products and services on the domestic market, directly to or through distributors. In the years 2007–2009 only 3–5% of sales were exported. The main buyer of the company’s products on the domestic market is the fire service and private distributors.
Kaliskie Zakłady Przemysłu Terenowego is a single-plant company. Due to its specific nature, the process of manufacture of helmets is not automated and is a labour intensive process. The company’s production capacity (one shift manufacture) is about 15,000 helmets annually. It is also possible to start two-shift manufacture.
Since 2005, the company has been focusing mainly on the manufacture of fireman’s helmets. Currently it manufactures six different types of helmets, including three meeting the requirements of latest European standards. This will allow the company to increase export to European and international markets. After the Interschutz 2010 International Trade Fair for Fire Fighting, Kaliskie Zakłady Przemysłu Terenowego commenced negotiations concerning the supply of its products to companies from Africa, Asia and South America. In the future, the company plans to expand its product range with new types of helmets.
In connection with an expansion of foreign companies operating globally, the company has more and more competitors on the Polish market. The quality of helmets made by Kaliskie Zakłady Przemysłu Terenowego, however, matches the quality of products offered by foreign competitors.
