Description of activity

The Company has a long-lasting tradition in fish breeding. At present, the Company is made up of 6 divisions conducting their activity within the area of Śląskie and Małopolskie voivodeships. Fish production takes place in the specially prepared ponds supplied with clean water. Fishes are bred under the regular supervision of the Voivodeship Veterinary Inspectorate. Carp is the basic product of the Company. Other breeding species include tench and crucian carp, herbivorous fishes: grass carp, silver carp and big head carp, and predatory fishes, such as pike, trout and catfish. The Company has also introduced for the production the colourful varieties of carp and crucian carp, which are usually used as the decoration of home garden ponds. In addition, the Company has started fish breeding of the so-called royal ponds of sturgeon. Within the framework of its trade activity the Company conducts all over the year the wholesale and retail sale of fish, sale of carp stocking material (the so-called fish hatch) and grown fish hatch (i.e. fish after the first and second year of breeding), as well as other species of freshwater fish for stocking open waters and fish ponds. The main commercial recipients of fish are supermarkets and hypermarkets, such as Tesco, Real, MGB Metro Group, Billa. The Company’s strategy assumes, inter alia, an increase in the fish production in order to utilize its full potential (at present, the Company’s production capacity is utilized in 30%), an increase in sales through opening new retail stores in Kraków, Rybnik and other cities, and an increase in fish production for anglers. In 2008, the Company’s share in the market was nearly 2%. Over the next 2-3 years, the Company plans to increase its production to 600-700 tonnes of commercial fish and this way to double its share in the market.
