For more than 80 years now Nasycalnia Podkładów w Pludrach (Sleeper Treatment Plant in Pludry) has been dealing with wood treatment for the railway industry. Sleepers are impregnated with the use of vacuum/pressure method in the so-called Ruping treatment cycle to achieve the deepest possible penetration for a given type of wood with the minimum absorption of impregnating liquid (creosote oil). The measurable benefits of this method include less consumption of energy and impregnating agent, and shorter treatment cycle. The wood treatment process is monitored on a current basis by the computer system making a plot of the treatment process.
Sleeper Treatment Plant in Pludry is one of the four Polish manufacturers of wooden elements for the railway track structure. The main customers of Sleeper Treatment Plant are firms dealing with the construction and repairs of railway infrastructure and track structure, such as PKP PLK, ThyssenKrupp Polska, Energoport sp. z o.o.
The Company offers a wide range of wooden track structure (sleepers and other elements of the track structure) and pressure-impregnated timber products. In addition, the Company performs customer-owned timber impregnation services, sleeper drilling and reinforcing them with steel elements of the track structure, timber seasoning, manufacture and treatment of telecommunication poles. Since 2008, the Company has been conducting timber sawmilling as an extra activity. The Company also produces construction timber, planks, stockades, wooden wastes and provides road transport services for its products. The Company rents and manages its own or leased properties.
The Company’s main strategic objective is to maintain and strengthen its position on the wooden track structure market, to continue removing the effects of environmental contamination resulting from the intensive wood impregnation activities over 80 years of Company’s operation, especially in the period of rapid expansion of the Polish railway network conducted by the Polish State Railways. The restoration works are conducted in such a manner as to not worsen the economic situation of the Company (order by the Sanitary Inspector and the Starost of Olesno to remove the contamination effects by the deadline of 2012). With the aim of product diversification, since 2007 the Company has been running the impregnation process in a closed cycle according to the Processing Instruction for Wood Material Impregnation, and since 2008 it has also been dealing with timber sawmilling.
The Company’s position on the market is well established. Sleeper Treatment Plant in Pludry has many years’ tradition. The beginning of its activity dates back in 1928. The Company has a number of regular customers for its products. It is one of the four manufacturers of wooden track structure in Poland. The advantages which differentiate the Company from the competition first of all include: high quality of products conforming to the European standards, short leading times, possibility to deliver the products with the use of its own road and railway transport, beneficial geographic location in the most industrialized region of the country (Opolskie Voivodeship, Śląskie Voivodeship), meeting all customer expectations within the conducted activities. The Company holds the certificates of admission for operation of a structure intended for conducting railway traffic issued by the Railway Transport Office (UTK) and the former Chief Railway Inspector (GIK) on the basis of successful tests carried out by the Material and Construction Testing Laboratory at the Railway Scientific and Technical Centre in Warsaw. The Company has also large storage spaces at its disposal.
