Description of activity

For 60 years now WNT has been maintaining the leading position in the market of science, technical and academic books. WNT publishes specialist literature in the field of computer science, mechanics, electronic, electrical engineering, power engineering, chemical engineering, food processing industry, light industry as well as mathematics, physics and chemistry, and technical encyclopaedias, lexicons and popular science books. WNT is the largest publisher of science and technical dictionaries on the Polish market. As the first Polish publisher, WNT placed in its offer computer science books that were the translations of titles issued by world's reputable publishers. The publishing house cooperates with the biggest Polish universities, such as Warsaw University of Technology, Wrocław University of Technology, Łódź University of Technology and Poznan University of Technology. 99% of its products and services is addressed to the domestic market. The distribution of books is based mainly on the network of wholesalers (70%), schools, universities and education centres (5%), retail customers (15%) and through its Internet bookshop (10%). The main competitors in the segment of science and technical publications are PWN, WSiP and Helion. The company's development strategy assumes the implementation of modern technology for organizational solutions, meeting the customer needs more effectively, making its offer more attractive and strengthening the brand position. These objectives will be achieved by the development of its own digital printing house and establishment of its own book repository cooperating with smaller publishers. These activities are aimed at the consolidation of the market of academic publications on the base of WNT, tightening the cooperation with university publishers and releasing the publishing house from the growing operating costs of the external wholesalers.
