Invitation to participate in the Investment Forum

Dear Sirs,

I have great pleasure in inviting you to attend the 2nd Investment Forum which will take place between 8 and 9 September in Tarnów. The previous edition met with great interest both from governments and parliaments of Central-Eastern European countries and from investors wishing to invest their capital in this region. I believe that the present Investment Forum will also bring tangible effects.

The theme of the present meeting will be “Privatisation in times of crisis”. This theme reflects challenges faced by post-communist countries in times of problems on worldwide markets. In the present economic situation promotion of the Central-Eastern Europe as well as exchange of experiences and information seem to be the top priorities. In the present market circumstances it is not rare that in the course of privatisation processes you are faced with difficult, often publicly unpopular decisions. Despite the crisis privatisation is still a measure of actual impact on the situation of enterprises, the way towards their restructuring and reducing their operational costs through consolidation and bringing the market to order. These measures are taken with a view to the future situation after the crisis, where high rate of economic growth will be of particular importance. Therefore I believe that by following a properly designed privatisation policy in connection with State-controlled entities, we can positively impact the economic transformation process and actively counteract the effects of economic downturn seen by a number of countries. Discussions which during the Forum will concentrate on six major topics including e.g. privatisation, energy security, or infrastructure, are expected to be an inspiration for its participants to find efficient solutions.

Exchange of experiences and strengthening cooperation between Central-Eastern European countries will continue during the Economic Forum in Krynica, which will be held between 9 and 12 September. It is the nineteenth time Poland will host this great undertaking. A meeting of political and economic elites of our region enables Poland to become known on the map of major European players and puts our country in the leading position among new EU members.

Both the Investment Forum in Tarnów and the Economic Forum in Krynica are events that have great importance for the Council of Ministers of which I’ve been a member. As the Minister of Treasury, I hope that these initiatives will provide valuable reflections and bring proposals for the improvement of privatisation processes which are scheduled to take place in the future.

With compliments,

Aleksander Grad
Minister of Treasury
