2nd Investment Forum in Tarnów
On 8 and 9 September 2009, in Tarnów, the 2nd Investment Forum was held.
The event was attended by more than 200 participants, who lively discussed the development of methods of management and effective implementation of investments during downturn.
This year, for two days the meetings of the Investment Forum were a platform for exchange of international ideas, and an opportunity for meeting of representatives of politics and business of Central and Eastern Europe. As a supporting event of the Economic Forum in Krynica, it was also a perfect introduction to a wider international debate on development via investments in the times of difficult economic situation.
The forum guests included, among others, representatives of the Ministries of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Belarus and Latvia. Attendees also included representatives of Polish and Hungarian businesses, as well as entrepreneurs conducting broadly-defined activity in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
The honorary patron of the event was Mr. Aleksander Grad, the Polish Minister of Treasury. On the second day of the Forum he made a short statement on the investment climate in Poland and the investment opportunities offered by the Ministry of Treasury. Mr. Adam Leszkiewicz, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Treasury, who also participated in the Forum, acted as moderator of the panel “The Central European Financial Sector after the Downturn”.
The following issues were discussed during the Investment Forum:
- Privatisation during downturn;
- Energy safety and economic efficiency;
- Central European financial sector after downturn;
- Restructuring, stock, privatisation. What is the future of the chemical industry?
- Who will be the first and the quickest to build modern infrastructure for economy?
- How to ensure financial resources for necessary power sector investments?
Apart from the plenary sessions and discussions panels, the Investment Forum also included presentations of investment offers of various Polish companies, institutions and cities.
The meetings were broadcasted live in Polish and English, and were available to viewers from all over the world at www.forum-ekonomiczne.pl.
During the closing meeting the Chairman of the Institute for Eastern Studies (FISW), Mr. Jerzy Bochyński, accompanied by the Minister of Treasury, Mr. Aleksander Grad, awarded symbolic glass statuettes of the 2nd Investment Forum to this year’s winners:
The winner of the 2009 investor of the year award in Central and Eastern Europe was: Grupa Lotos S.A. The award was accepted by Chairman, Mr. Paweł Olechnowicz.
The winner of the 2009 investment of the year award in Central and Eastern Europe was the restructuring project implemented by the company Lubelski Węgiel „Bogdanka” S.A. The award was accepted by Chairman, Mr. Mirosław Taras.
The awards were presented for the first time this year. The candidates proposed by the partner media of the Economic Forum were presented to the Council of the Economic Forum. On 4 September 2009 the Council selected winners by voting. The Ministry of Treasury of Poland presented its privatisation offer on the Ministry’s information stand.
