Minister Jackiewicz Met SASAC Representatives

On Sunday, 7 August this year, a meeting of Dawid Jackiewicz, Minister of Treasury, and Chinese representatives of SASAC (i.e. State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, being the Chinese equivalent of the Ministry of Treasury) was held in the seat of the Ministry of Treasury. The meeting was devoted to exchanging experience concerning economic cooperation.

The Chinese authority was represented by Mr Xiao Yaqing, SASAC President, representatives of SASAC management and a representative of the Chinese Embassy.

The meeting was attended also by: Andrzej Piotrowski, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, and two Undersecretaries of State in the Ministry of Treasury, i.e. Filip Grzegorczyk and Mikołaj Wild.

The subject was the exchange of experience connected with the corporate governance of companies with Treasury shareholding, as well as the development of the Polish and Chinese economic cooperation.

The talks were devoted mainly to ideas and plans of intensifying cooperation in the aviation, copper and energy sector.

The Chinese representatives hoped for extending the areas for the Polish and Chinese cooperation, pointing to the opportunities resulting from establishing the relations also with the Polish private companies. They wished the mutual understanding of the two states would be reflected in common economic projects.

Minister Dawid Jackiewicz stressed the Polish and Chinese relations had intensified in recent years both in terms of economy and politics. He pointed out Poland expects further development of the economic cooperation, emphasizing it would be crucial in this respect to make every effort to ensure the states are well connected which, in turn, is closely related to the free circulation of goods and people, but also capital.

In October, Warsaw was visited by the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi. During the visit of the Polish President, Andrzej Duda, to the People's Republic of China (on 22-27 November 2015), many bilateral agreements were signed, e.g. the Memorandum of Understanding between the Polish Government and the Chinese Government concerning the common support for the One Belt, One Road initiative. The visit of the Chines President, Xi Jinping to Poland on 19-21 June 2016 was a chance to sign a Common Memorandum on the Establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Poland and the People's Republic of China which officially increased the level of the strategic partnership between the two countries, lasting since 2011.

SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission) is a dedicated body answering directly to the Chinese State Council (similar to the Ministry of Treasury; it was created in 2003). The main mission of SASAC is the management of companies with Treasury shareholding in the People's Republic of China. One of the major tasks of SASAC in the years to come is to carry out the reform of state-owned companies, adopted in 2016.
