President Lech Kaczyński a Patron of LNG Terminal in Świnoujście
President Lech Kaczyński became a Patron of the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście who presented the gas harbour concept one decade ago, in 2006. On Saturday 18 June, at the main entrance gate to the development, a plaque commemorating President Lech Kaczyński was uncovered.
The celebration of uncovering the commemorative plaque and awarding the name of President Lech Kaczyński to the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście was attended by President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Beata Szydło, Ministers, including the Minister of Treasury Dawid Jackiewicz, PIS President Jarosław Kaczyński, as well as the deceased President's daughter, Marta Kaczyńska.
As stressed by Jarosław Kaczyński in his speech, this was a wonderful time both for himself and for his niece.
Also president Andrzej Duda gave a speech during the celebration.
"As a Polish President, I am here to thank the visionary, the one who inspired the patriotic Polish politicians who understood the needs of Poland to carry out this strategic development. I am here to thank the president, professor Lech Kaczyński", said president Andrzej Duda in his speech. He added that from the earliest days of his term, president Lech Kaczyński was clear about the interests of Poland which need to be satisfied to ensure Poland is a truly independent, sovereign state and, consequently, a truly strong one. "One of the most important components of this vision was the energy security", he added.
Prime Minister Beata Szydło pointed out that the terminal is an economic, power-related investment which proves care for the sovereignty and security of state. "Poland is a secure state. Poland is a state which starts to develop rapidly but, first of all, it is a state in which the most important priority of the government, the priority of Prawo i Sprawiedliwość party, is the statement made by Professor President Lech Kaczyński who, referring to the energy security, to the sovereignty of Poland, spoke, thought of and took care of the security of all of us", Prime Minister Beata Szydło said.
"The LNG Terminal in Świnoujście is one of the most important components of building the energy independence of Poland and diversifying the sources of gas", the Operator of Transmission Gas Pipelines Gaz System, one of the organiser of the Saturday event, stresses.
On Friday, the first ship with the commercial liquefied gas cargo, supplied by Qatargas Operating Company Limited, entered the terminal. The next delivery of gas from Qatar will take place in mid July 2016. Subsequent gas tankers are to reach Świnoujście on a regular basis, once a month. Besides the deliveries under the contract with the Quatari company, the terminal is to handle cargo bought under short-term contracts.
